Hello all!
I’m sorry that it’s been so long since my last post. I’ve been keeping busy with my day job (I work at a local library) and continuing to work on both my writing and my crafting. Since the farmers market season began in April, I’ve also been setting up my booth at least once a week at different markets throughout the county. All together, I’ve been one busy woman!
When I created this blog, I hoped that it would become a great place for creative people to get together and hang out. In my experience, most creative types don’t stick to a single outlet. Most of us do variety of things. For instance, I write, make jewelry, and paint wooden signs.

I love upcycling furniture. I’ve done a few pieces now. Love renovating, even if it’s just small bits at a time due to money constraints. It’s so rewarding and I love being creative in as many ways as I can.

Oh, wow! I sell my books and crafts at local farmers markets. There was a couple in a nearby booth a few years ago that sold painted silk. Gorgeous stuff! 🙂

My books are on Amazon. I do a lot of my silk for charity and friends, did a charity market and found it a very frustrating, Think I am more a creator than a seller! Do you enjoy the markets? It also seems to me that people equate craft with cheap and don’t want to pay a fair price therefore the crafter never really gets paid for their time. I know the joy is in the making but people often have no idea of the time and effort that has been put into a piece.

I find that my books sell better in person. I think people like meeting the author and getting the books signed. It helps that one of my books is about local history. So, selling at local farmers markets and festivals is a good fit.
The crafts can be hit or miss. Yes, some people can be cheap. I’ve had people tell me point blank that they don’t see any point in buying my crafts since they can make their own. But, on the other hand, there are also other people that are really supportive and more than happy to pay my asking price.
I mostly make the crafts because I enjoy it and because it helps fill up my booth (I only have a few published books– so far!). I price in the middle. Enough to at least cover the material costs plus a little bit. I don’t make much of a profit, but I do make enough to stay in the green (usually!).

Like you, I also enjoy creating more than selling.
I usually enjoy the markets overall. But, here on the Oregon coast, the outdoor markets run from April until October. I usually do at least 2 a week, so by the end I’m pretty exhausted.

Librarian, farmers market… you’re like all my favorite things rolled into one human. 🙂 I really like Instagram for creativity right now. The writing prompts we post not only appeal to me as a writer, but allow me to experiment with digital photography, which I love. –Whitney

LOL I’m like a kid at the candy store when I’m working at the library or farmers market. I’m surrounded by the things I love. 🙂
